Tonight our advent activity was baking and decorating Christmas sugar cookies, a tradition my mom started with me and Natalie when we were little girls so it was fun to get to do that together with mom and our own children. I made drip beef sandwiches and mom made her yummy broccoli cheese soup, a delicious combination! It was so fun to have everyone here-Mom, dad, Natalie, Keller, Ethan, Grandmother, Papa, Uncle Dave and even Grandma and Grandpa made it in town in time to join us. After dinner the kids started rolling out their dough and carefully selecting the cookie cutters they wanted to use to cut out their cookies. It's so cute to watch them all together. Ava thinks she is just as big as the boys and tries her best to keep up with them. She was singing "rolling, rolling, rolling" as she rolled out her dough. She also helped herself to several bites of dough. After we baked the cookies and they cooled the real fun began. I'm pretty sure twice as much icing and sprinkles were ingested as were actually put on cookies. Ethan made a sprinkle and icing cocktail in Nana's water cup. At one point I looked over and Ethan and Keller both had an icing tube in their mouth and Ava had a spatula covered in icing in her mouth. After we were all buzzing on sugar we decided to have a little Dance Central fun with Justin's new Kinect his parents got him for Christmas. The kitchen and floors and table and chairs were a mess and there were sprinkles and cookie dough everywhere but sometimes I think the messier the activity the more fun! And the prettiest cookies award goes to Aunt Natalie- her teddy bear girl, Santa and bell were all very artistic!
