A Bed for Baby Jesus

What a sweet day today has been, a powerful sermon on repentance, beautiful time of praise and worship, a long nap, a time of honest sharing and encouraging at Life Group and a really special advent activity. Today our scripture was about the angel Gabriel telling Mary she would give birth to Jesus. Our advent activity was to use things around the house to make a bed for baby Jesus in preparation of His birth. We found a basket and blankets in Ava's room. Ava was very excited about this activity. She loves babies and taking care of and tending to them. She even found a business card for my OB/GYN in the basket when we were cleaning it out and threw it in the basket, I guess she wanted Mary to have it. We put the bed in front of our Christmas tree to remind us that while the traditions, the tree and the presents are all fun, they are not what this season is about. It is about the humble birth of our Savior and the life and hope and peace and eternity that we have because of His willingness to give up His comfortable home in heaven and be born to a young virgin and live in this fallen world and die on a cross for you and for me.
